After a year of debate, the ruling Christian Social Union (CSU), which is close to the Catholic Church and Bavaria’s ruling conservative Christian Social Union party, is reportedly set to approve the new law this weekend. It is highly unlikely that a liberal opposition would agree to this and the new law is expected to be adopted in the Bundestag (parliament) this weekend. Legalizing Prostitution on Demand is a major departure from the “modernized” prostitution laws that have been in place in Germany for years and will likely lead to a rise in human trafficking. The new law makes it legal for men to pay for sexual services of any kind — including oral sex, intercourse and various other sex acts — but it is illegal for a woman to accept money for sex unless she is at least 21 years old, the age of majority in Germany.
